LimeWire

If you have ever tried to download files via a file sharing system, chances are that you have at least come across Limewire, if you haven’t actually used it. Limewire P2P file sharing software network is one of the most popular peer to peer networks online. It works in much the same way as other P2P file sharing systems – Limewire software provides a connection between users’ computers so that they can share files with each other – it does not maintain a central database of files from which users choose their files. Limewire is popular for a number of reasons. One main reason for its popularity is actually its popularity – because there are so many Limewire users, each with their own selection of files, the Limewire network offers a huge selection of from which users can choose. Limewire also has a number of servers, so that connection and download speeds are fast.

About The Different Versions Of Limewire
Limewire is an open source software system, which means that the software programming code for Limewire is available for everyone to take and use as they so choose. Because the code is available for to people to adapt, there are many versions of Limewire and many Limewire off shoot programs. Some of the Limewire versions, like Limewire Pro, offer faster download speeds and are adware and spyware free. Other Limewire versions offer other benefits, like firewall to firewall transfers, but all versions of Limewire can be downloaded for free. If you want to download Limewire or download Limewire Pro free, visit the Limewire website.

Unlike many other P2P networks, there is a Limewire for Macs download available.

Trouble For Limewire
As you might image, the success of Limewire has lead to the record industry, upset about the trading of copyright controlled files, filing lawsuits against Limewire. Limewire will fight a multi million dollar lawsuit from the major record labels in the summer of 2007. Many other P2P networks have faced similar lawsuits and have settled out of court to minimize their damages, but Limewire has decided to fight the music industry, setting up a showdown that could have far reaching implications for all internet users.

Limewire users have also launched several complaints against Limewire, claiming that the software comes bundled with adware and spyware that buries itself deep within a computer and cannot be removed. Some versions of Limewire now claim to be free of this malware.
